Chapter Three: She Came Out of the Photograph
“Behind Stage Zero, the walls are full of people who were moved.”
Headlights flared. Three black vans blocked the lane. Their doors opened together, releasing Obsidian security officers. Tang Li emerged from the last vehicle with Wen's schedule tablet in her hands.
“Ms. Wen,” she said, “Chairwoman Zhu asks you to return to the company.”
The short-haired woman's smile disappeared. She leaned toward Wen and whispered for only the three of them to hear.
“Don't go back. Tomorrow, what you lose will be the memory of how your sister died.”
Wen went rigid.
Security advanced. Jianwei tightened her grip on her mother's pass. Then Wen seized Jianwei's hand and pulled her and the short-haired woman toward the darkness of the old studio.
