His ball landed in sand. Zhao took a two-point lead. “No machine, no miracle?” Zhao whispered as he passed. Lu said nothing. The ability supplied an answer, but his body still had to write the solution. During the remaining practice time, he swung repeatedly, shifting force away from his injured wrist and into his hips. With every correction, the line grew steadier. The final hole was Broken Bridge. A ball had to clear twelve meters of water, bounce once on a moving plank, and reach a narrow green. Zhao played safely to the edge. Unless Lu holed it outright, Zhao would win. The odds reached twenty to one. Spectators shouted “Magnetic King.”
