Inside lay a thin black ledger and a photograph from a traffic accident eleven years ago.
Jianwei's father stood beside a black car. Next to him was a much younger Xie Linchuan. On the back someone had written: Candidate for the Seventh Lens—Shen Zhengyan's daughter.
Jianwei pressed the photograph against the crate. “You said we had met before.”
“Eleven years ago,” he said. “The night of the accident, your father told me to take you away. The next day, you did not remember me.”
“That was absent from our shared information.”
“I had no proof the memory was collected. I also did not know whether telling you would reactivate the old contract.”
