Chapter Two: The Theater That Did Not Exist
The man turned. It was Gu Linchuan, Shen Yao's mentor and head of the hospital's brain institute. He looked seven years younger. But Lin Mo would have been two then; this could not be her memory.
"Four."
Someone had spliced another person's past into the child's mind.
The umbrella reached the stage. A pale hand without fingerprints emerged from beneath it. Shen Yao snatched up the cue card. On its back was a code: SY-07.
"Whom are you looking for?" the mouths beneath the umbrella asked.
She ripped the wire from Lin Mo's headphones. A scream filled the theater. Every rabbit mask split, revealing no faces underneath.
"Three."
The exit remained closed.
