Chapter Four: My Shadow Boarded Before Me
Lu stepped through the darkness beneath a sink and emerged from behind the stall door. He twisted the attacker's wrist. Lu's stolen features slid away, revealing his director, a policeman, Isabel—and finally an unfamiliar Japanese woman.
“Candidate Thirty-Nine, Rin Kirishima,” she said. “I like your door. Lend it to me.”
Her shadow fastened to Lu's, trying to copy Shadowstep. Meanwhile, the real equipment case traveled toward the gate.
Lu kicked out every motion-sensor light. The floor drowned in darkness. Rin's shadow gained countless doors but could not tell which belonged to whom. Lu closed his eyes and trusted his aerial memory of the terminal: sink, advertisement, baggage conveyor.
