Lin Yan understood. The fourth problem was a net. It had been made unsolvable so only Gu Yan, equipped with a special “solution,” would exploit the intended flaw. No matter how well the others handled the first three problems, a zero would put them out of reach.
Ninety minutes remained.
Lin Yan raised his hand. “I request that an error in the problem statement be entered into the record.”
Every face turned toward him. The chief examiner frowned. “There is no error. Continue.”
“Then I’ll prove it has no solution.”
Someone laughed. Gu Tingzhi smiled as well. “Young man, before questioning the rules, first prove you understand them.”
