It was exactly what she feared. Celeste picked up a letter opener and slashed a sample of her engagement gown. Mira tried to stop her; her hand brushed the ivory satin. A vision flashed. Celeste sat in a hospital corridor, mud covering her bridal hem. A young woman lay on a gurney, holding her hand through an oxygen mask. “I’m finally home,” Stella whispered. It was happiness—at least Celeste’s greatest happiness in that moment. Mira pulled away. “Your sister comes home.”
