Howard looked over. His smile remained, but scrutiny entered his eyes. “Are you unwell, Ms. Shen?”
“Only sorry about the wine.” She crouched and slipped a note into a fold of Evelyn’s gown.
DON’T DRINK. DON’T BE ALONE. THIRD STALL IN THE WOMEN’S ROOM IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.
Ten minutes later, Evelyn excused herself.
In the restroom, Mira converted prophecy into facts the woman could verify. “Did Howard arrange your medical exams? Have you signed an overseas asset proxy?”
Evelyn went white. “How did you know? He said it was tax planning.”
“Call the police and your own attorney. Don’t return to the ballroom.”
“I have no evidence.”
“Then we’ll make him deliver it.”
