Chapter One: The Ring That Crushed an Elevator
She showed Lin a wedding article. The groom was sliding that same ring onto his bride’s hand. His cuff concealed most of his right hand, but the edge of a pale curved scar showed.
“Why are you here?” Lin asked.
Before she answered, the elevator dropped half a meter. Xu wrapped the ring inside the piano cover without touching it directly.
“Don’t take it!”
“I don’t consider it mine.”
Oddly, the ring did not grow heavier in her grasp. They tied it to the handrail and climbed. The moment Lin reached the thirteenth floor, the ring tore through the elevator floor, taking the piano down the shaft. The building clenched around the impact.
By dawn, seventeen people in Linlan City had died in heavy-object accidents.
