Chapter Two: The Deleted Woman
“You recorded it three years ago.”
“I didn't know you.”
“You did. No one can prove that life existed anymore.”
“Why don't you have a wish?”
“Because I was fulfilled once already.”
He showed her a photograph of herself asleep against his shoulder, a thin silver ring on her hand.
“Every wish you fulfill makes the world forget a piece of your life,” Zhou Jiming said. “Last night it was a stranger. Today, your closest friend.”
Outside, wishes layered over pedestrians until the city resembled a letter stuffed with secrets and ready to burn.
“What happens if I do nothing?” she asked.
“Wishes seek their own exits. Dangerous ones turn black and push people to act. But you can make people speak them.
