Chapter Four: North Bay Cold Storage
Only one recording survived on the drive. On the night of the accident, Shen's father smashed the resonance controls and freed fifteen-year-old Shen from a chair. A woman blocked the pursuing guards. Shen knew her eyes: Gao Lan, Gao Ye's mother and the club's former legal counsel.
At the end, Shen's father pushed his son through a safety door, then returned toward the rink. Unconscious Lin Che lay restrained over the black ice.
“There's another child!” he shouted.
The explosion swallowed the image.
Lin replayed the final three seconds. Before the fire, her brother opened his eyes and looked directly through twelve years of recorded time. His lips formed two syllables.
Shen Yan.
