Chapter One: Uninstall Failed

On his fourteenth June third, Chen stopped designing. From dawn to midnight he interviewed cleaners, couriers, receptionists, disabled workers, and engineers. He realized his old “user research” had merely searched for support for answers already chosen. On the fifteenth loop, he brought six magnetic signs, two removable floor strips, and a local queue page on an old tablet. People selected destinations before entering the lobby and received one of three suggested groups. No names, no commands. Cleaners with carts and people with limited mobility had a permanent priority entrance. Management changed no core code; its screens merely displayed the groups. At 6:12, floor tiles appeared where the lobby was usually a wall of bodies.
