“That's why no one leaves,” A-Man said. “The system believes harm is data that can be stored, transferred, and canceled. It never understood one thing.”
“What?”
“A wound remembered never equals zero.”
Forty-seven minutes remained. The hound began devouring the loose red mist. Each injury gave it a new organ. Burns became flaming fur, broken bones became outward-pointing spikes, and betrayal became a second mouth that lied without pause.
Lin stared at the scale until Fault Vision finally supplied an annotation.
