The Forgotten Man
It shot across the grass like a low bullet, cleared the first defender, then suddenly rose, skimming under the crossbar before the goalkeeper could reach it.
One second of silence.
Then the stadium exploded.
"My God!" the commentator shouted, springing from his chair. "Mason Carter! That strike came flying back from ten years ago! Riverbend Ironworks are level!"
Mason stood where he was. He did not celebrate. He only looked down and tugged at his knee brace, as if that world-class shot had been nothing more than extra work after training.
Phone screens lit across the stands. Someone posted the clip online with a sharp caption:
"Biggest failed talent scores one good goal on a semi-pro rainy night. Congrats, he finally found his level."
