The Well at Aster Park
In the center stood a woman in a white coat, flanked by three guards. She looked colder than her photo. She also looked like someone who knew she would win.
Mara Stratton.
"You're faster than I expected," she said. Her tone was so even it made Ethan's skin crawl. "After the port warehouse, I thought you'd be handled before morning."
"You know me?" Ethan asked.
"The whole city knows you. They just use different words."
She lifted a hand and the screen behind her lit up: the port warehouse, South Side streets, chopped news footage, and the blurry image of Ethan from that night. Every clip had been edited into the worst possible shape.
