Chapter One: Day 992 on the Bench
“You said a double move?” Eli asked quietly.
Lin opened the notebook and drew the coverage. “The safety pinches inside at seven yards. Not because he reads the route. Because he doesn’t believe you’ll throw to the boundary. Kane’s first turn is bait. On his second cut, the ball lands here before his outside foot comes down.”
Eli studied the page. “That isn’t in the playbook.”
“Which means they won’t prepare for it.”
Eli tore out the sketch, folded it, and slipped it into his wristband. “If you’re still here tomorrow, I want to try it.”
Lin smiled faintly. “Someone would have to let me onto the field first.”
At six the next morning, he was back at the training center.
