Chapter Three: The Deleted Sister
The girl looked offended. “Will I still be your sister?”
The boy colored the door yellow. “Always.”
The recording jumped. Alarms sounded, and red light filled the lab. A woman pushed the boy toward a safety door but left the girl behind the glass. The girl did not cry. She pressed her palm against the wall.
“Big brother,” she said, “if I get lost, you have to find me.”
The screen went black.
When it lit again, Zero’s words appeared one at a time, slower than before.
“Lin Mo, who is she?”
He could not answer.
According to every government record, he was an only child. His mother had never spoken of a daughter, and the hospital recorded only one male infant.
