Chapter Three: The Hidden Eighth Rule
After the man left, Lin Wan asked if he had lost his mind.
“This place knows where my brother is,” Zhou Ran said. “And it can feel fear. Anything that fears can negotiate.”
He returned to the security room. All twelve monitors were dark, but the old thirteenth screen remained on. The red-dressed girl swung her legs inside the image. Behind her stretched a subway tunnel that did not exist in the building.
“My name is Xiaoman,” she said. “You won the first night, but what you received wasn't a reward.”
“What was it?”
“An inheritance.” She pointed down the tunnel.
Eleven pairs of mechanical eyes ignited in the darkness.
“Before the true owner wakes,” Xiaoman said, “steal this restaurant back.”
