When the Livestream Broke, the Lie Did Too
He reached for the cut-off, and the door behind him slammed shut.
“Anybody there?” Grace called from outside.
A calm voice answered through the door.
Trevor Hale.
“You shouldn’t have come here, Mr. Mercer.”
Elias looked up, eyes hard. “You wanted dead bodies.”
“No,” Trevor said. “We wanted a story the whole country would believe.”
There was a beat of silence.
Then Trevor added, almost pleasantly, “And we’re about to get it.”
Footsteps rushed in the hallway.
Weapons clicked into ready position.
The real hunt had finally started.
