"How'd you know?" the foreman asked, pale as paper. "I heard it," Noah said. He heard the words himself and froze for a beat. Yes. He wasn't hearing machines make noise. He was hearing danger. This time, Noah didn't rush. He closed his eyes and let every sound settle into his body.
