Chapter Four - Heat Comes Through the Walls
"How long until the heat reaches us?" he asked.
"If the parking deck above keeps failing," Sophie said, staring at a temperature panel that no longer looked trustworthy, "twenty minutes. Maybe fifteen. The sensors are drifting."
"Enough."
"Enough for what?"
"Enough to take the cooling loop first."
He moved with Carl, Lucy, Mara, and a reluctant Nad toward the pump room. The deeper they went, the wetter the air became. Condensation sat on the floor in a thin sheen, but the coolness was a lie. The pump room door was already too hot to touch. Carl wrapped the handle in a damp cloth anyway and still cursed when the metal bit through it.
The door opened into a blast of heat.
