Chapter One: The Message After Midnight
He sent a screenshot to Zhou Yu, his former colleague and Island's security chief. The send icon spun, then became a red exclamation mark. Private messages were still down.
At two in the morning, Shen went to the hospital.
Su He looked more exhausted than in her photograph. She crouched beside a vending machine, striking the card slot. When Shen spoke her name, her hand closed around the pepper spray in her pocket.
“I received a message you send seven days from now,” he said.
She looked at him as if he had escaped from the psychiatric ward. Then he showed her the screenshot, and her suspicion hardened into fear. The profile photograph in the future message was not one she had ever uploaded.
