Chapter One: The Ace They Stole
“A magnetic ball and an attracting cup,” Ma announced. “The miracle was a machine.”
Cold flooded Lu's body. “My bag stayed in the caddie room. Your staff sent me through that corridor to fetch a rangefinder.”
“Who can prove it?” Gu asked.
The caddies who had cheered moments ago looked away. Su lifted her camera. “I have continuous footage.”
Ma inserted her memory card into a computer. The file played, but half a second of static appeared before the ball landed. After the static, it was already rolling toward the cup.
“Someone rewrote the card,” Su said. “That gap wasn't there.”
“Ms. Su,” Gu replied softly, “your former employer dismissed you for inaccurate reporting. Your testimony is hardly clean.”
