Chapter One: The Falling Bouquet
“Serena, you cannot sign anything today.”
The bride stared at her in the mirror. “Why?”
Mira could not explain a basement or gamble a woman’s future on a vision. She placed the GPS log and contract photographs on the table. “Theo lied about registering the marriage and is trying to obtain your voting rights. I don’t yet know why he replaced the bouquet.”
The door slammed open.
Theo stood outside, all tenderness gone. “You’ve crossed a line.”
“My contract requires that the ceremony reflect both parties’ informed consent.” Mira moved between him and Serena. “Fraud is not consent.”
Theo gestured for his guards. Sirens answered from the corridor instead.
