Chapter Four: The Man in the Mirror
The photograph was not a composite.
Jo enlarged it until the pixels broke apart. Adrian still stood in the glass reflection, every detail intact: the faint scar across his left brow, the obsidian cuff links, even the slight inward bend of his trigger finger.
“The file was created yesterday at 4:13 p.m.,” she said. “But both of you were at Lanting then.”
Adrian studied the image. “Only three people have facial access to Cloudshore chapel: my father, the steward, and me.”
“Then let’s see whether this picture was taken for the living or the dead,” Mira said.
An hour later, their boat reached the island. The unfinished chapel’s glass walls reflected a leaden sky.
