Black Water at the Port

Ethan pressed a hand against the column and heard the stress inside it, taut as wire. It could not hold much longer. "You're insane," Ron snarled. "No," Ethan panted. "I'm just later to give up on this city than you are." Then he slammed the emergency fire pump. The sprinkler system kicked on all at once. Water turned the light into shards. In the same motion, Ethan flung a metal key ring into the control panel and burned out the main box. The warehouse went nearly black. Red emergency lights blinked on and off like a broken heart. In that darkness Ethan heard boots lose rhythm, breath go uneven, someone slam into a rack. Then the beam failed.
