Gu woke from his trance and stared at the thirteen-frame strip. “No one has seen it. The midnight screenings keep growing after the credits because the film hasn’t found an ending.” Lin removed the key. The street flickered, exposing braces and cables. At last she understood why she had been chosen. Not because the house remembered her. Not because she had survived. Because a story without an ending goes looking for a screenwriter. The worldwide release was six days away.
