She faced Qiao. “I believe you saw me with the bowl. That does not mean it happened.”
Qiao forced out her reply. “I believe you saw me keep filming. That does not mean I chose to.”
Both corridors vanished, leaving one burned passage.
The Echo Machine still ran inside the projection booth, wired through the walls to every screen in the city. The Reel Seven can was empty. Zhou had carved words into its base: THE NEGATIVE IS NOT AN OBJECT. IT IS THE FIRST PERSON WHO BELIEVED.
Gu ripped the tape from his chest. His name appeared on the wall’s credits: PROJECTIONIST—GU WEN. His eyes emptied. He reached for the machine.
